AROUND TOWN: PPCC culinary students show off skills at scholarship dinner

It seems appropriate that the final event at Blue Star Group's Nosh restaurant was a salute to the future of culinary arts.

Those who designed and created the gourmet sit-down dinner on April 23 were the students of the Pikes Peak Community College Culinary Arts Program, the up and coming food stars. Six days later, Nosh quietly closed in Plaza of the Rockies in preparation for a new food venture.

The popular annual dinner, a benefit for the 5-year-old Fran Folsom Culinary Arts Scholarship for students in their final year of study, is a project of Blue Star Group's Joseph Coleman and Folsom along with Pikes Peak Community College Foundation.

Students, mentored by chefs Stephen Fabian and Matt Richardson, had competed for their dishes to be part of the fine-dining menu, which they prepared and served to guests.

Among those introduced, the 2016 scholarship winners Amedee Irey, Sarah Moore, Edward Foster, Jack Ritchie and Annmatie Rose. Internships have begun for most.

Five 2017 scholarships were funded by this dinner: Kari Rosenbaum, Stephanie Rigsby, Karen Maus, Laura Strickland and Amber Dunbar.
