Champagne flutes were raised high toasting 23 years of Colorado Springs Teen Court and its 10th annual Jewel of a Wine Tasting fundraiser Nov. 3 at Norris-Penrose Event Center.

It was also a toast to Ivars Spons of Sovereignty Wines for being the man behind the wine and beverage selections at the benefit all 10 years.

Benefitting from the evening, Teen Court is restorative justice for first-time juvenile offenders. More than 8,000 juveniles have traversed the program, judged by a jury of their peers instead of the misdemeanor courts. The majority of their crimes are shoplifting, simple assaults and drug violations and their sentencing fits each case, meted out over the years by 2,000 trained high school volunteers. Offenders who have gone through Teen Court have a recidivism rate of 7%.

The 280 Jewel of a Wine Tasting and Gourmet Food Gala participants visited wine vendor tables with order books in hand, marking favorite wines which were offered at event rates.

All That Glitters Jewelry Gallery had a table of glittering selections for the holiday.
