A wanted man was arrested Wednesday night after an hourslong search in the area of South Circle Drive and Monterey Road, Colorado Springs police announced.

Officers tried to stop the man's vehicle about 6:30 p.m., but he eluded them and fled on foot, said Lt. Steve Noblitt. The man was wanted on suspicion of multiple felonies, including attempted murder and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

A reverse-911 notification was sent out to residents within a half-mile radius of South Circle Drive and Monterey Road, telling them to stay in their home and lock their doors and windows.

While the search was ongoing, Noblitt said, "We're concerned, with as cold as it is, that he might break into somewhere warm."

Police said in an 8:44 p.m. tweet that the man had been arrested and the area was "secure." He was caught in the backyard of a home, Gazette news partner KKTV reported.

"There is no longer a threat to the community," police said.
