TREND -SETTING FASHION, NO GUILT: JEANNE B'S BOUTIQUE

5118 N. Nevada Ave., 527-3377, jeannebsboutique.com

Looking for an of-the-moment dress or other wardrobe staple? Try this family-owned women's store in University Village Colorado shopping center. They'll help you (in a nice, not pushy way) find whatever piece or accessory you didn't even know you wanted. They make fantastic suggestions just for you from their large inventory. And when you get all your maybes into the dressing room, you'll find the prices to be so affordable you may go home with TWO dresses (I speak from personal experience). Pro tip: Sign up for their rewards program for discounts.

FINISHING TOUCHES FOR YOUR ROOM: PLATTE FURNITURE

2331 E. Platte Place, 633-7309, www.plattefurniture.com

When I was new to town and searching for an armchair, TV stand and more to fill my new pad, I discovered Platte Furniture. I was impressed by the wide selection of new and used furniture - rooms and rooms of it - reasonably priced. If you don't find anything you like on first glance, stop by a week or two later, and you'll find an entirely different display of well-curated, good-quality pieces. And they offer pickup and delivery. Before you go, see their website's "Today's Great Buys." A recent installment included a good selection of coffee and end tables priced from $35.

CHIC FINDS, FROM CHAISES TO BOOTS: REDOUX CONSIGNMENT BOUTIQUE

119 E. Bijou St., 799-0860, www.redouxboutique.com

If you haven't stopped into Redoux, I hate to tell you, but you've missed out on a fun shopping experience with new-to-you items in great condition, such as a designer belt, cocktail dress, jeans, chaise lounge or unique lamp. This downtown shop (look for the stylish awning on Bijou, between Tejon and Nevada) that describes itself as a high-end, specialty consignment boutique is freshly stocked every time you visit, and there's much to look at in the space that's about half furniture and home accessories and half women's clothing. The owner has a great eye for fun vintage fashion and upholstered furniture and decor.

SIP A COCKTAIL WHILE YOU SHOP: EVE'S REVOLUTION

1312 W. Colorado Ave., 633-1357, www.evesrevolution.com

This adorable women's boutique regularly hosts events in the store and outdoors in the garden. They hand you a pretty cocktail such as a mimosa and offer small pastries as you browse. It's fun and slightly dangerous to your wallet to shop and sip! Other vendors (jewelry, clothing, bath items, decor) are on hand as well. The events are made known via a Facebook invite or the store's newsletter.

UNIQUE INGREDIENTS FOUND HERE: MOUNTAIN MAMA

1625 W. Uintah St., Suite A, 633-4139, www.mountainmamanaturalfoods.com

I recently needed tapioca flour for a recipe but didn't have it in my pantry and couldn't find it in the grocery store. I searched a couple of supermarkets to no avail and was about to order it online, which would've delayed my baking, when I made a last-minute check at Mountain Mama, and there it was. Mountain Mama is great for a lot of healthy-type ingredients like that. Need gluten-free mixes? Check. How about bulk seeds, grains or spices? Check. Fresh organic produce? Got it. They also make to order a mean sandwich.
