You might know Academy Award-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton from his decades-long movie career or his short, fiery marriage to Angelina Jolie.

But he's also the drummer and vocalist of the country rock and rockabilly band Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters. They'll perform May 9 at Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts in Palmer Lake. Tickets are $75-$85 and are on sale now; 481-0475, trilakesarts.org.

The band was founded in 2007 and has released three albums, the last of which was "Modbilly" in 2009.

They cover The Beatles, The Who, Rolling Stones and others, while also focusing on original songs mostly written or co-written by Thornton based on folks from his Arkansas childhood.

Before the Boxmasters, Thornton played in cover bands for Creedence Clearwater Revival and ZZ Top and released four solo albums from 2001 to 2007.
