Jerry Jinkins, 58, of Colorado Springs, was killed in a crash on Interstate 25 south of Pueblo Sunday, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The wreck happened shortly before 10 p.m. and closed down northbound I-25 at Verde Road as troopers investigated the circumstances of the crash.

In a press release, state patrol said the roads were slick with rain, causing 30-year-old Jerrell Jinkins, the driver of a 2003 Kia Sorento, to lose control of the vehicle and collide with a guardrail on the left side of the road. The Kia then crossed the highway lanes and crashed into the opposite guard rail.

The driver of the Kia was wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries, the state patrol said. The Kia's front passenger, 26-year-old Rashada Jinkins, was also wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries. They were both taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. Jerry Jinkins was in the back seat and not wearing a seat belt, killed when he was thrown from the vehicle upon impact, state patrol said.

In the wreck, the Kia collided with a Toyota Tundra driven by Luke Greer, 20, of Colorado Springs. Greer and his passenger, Rya Dyes, 20, of Centennial, were not hurt in the crash and both were wearing seat belts, according to the state patrol.

Alcohol and drugs were not suspected to be factors in the crash by investigators.
