Colorado Springs roofing company ordered to pay back customers

The owners of a Colorado Springs roofing company, accused of taking thousands of dollars for work that was never done, pleaded guilty Monday to theft, Gazette news partner KKTV reported.

Josh and Christina Noel have to repay their victims a total of $25,000 by March in exchange for deferred sentences, KKTV reported. If they adhere to the terms, the offenses could be wiped from their records.

The Noels, both 43, were arrested in June on suspicion of multiple cases of theft, police said. 

When the couple was arrested, the Colorado Springs Police Department was investigating at least four complaints against the company, court records show. At least two more were being investigated by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

In each case - all of which began in fall 2016 - Quality Roofing cashed customers’ down payments “even though little to no work had been completed,” arrest documents show. It wasn’t long before the company’s phone was abruptly disconnected and its store location closed down.

But until recently, Quality Roofing had been a reputable contractor in good standing with the Better Business Bureau.

The company lost accreditation from the Better Business Bureau on April 28, but at one point, it had an A- rating, a BBB spokeswoman confirmed. The company was founded in 2003, according to its page on the BBB website.

An El Paso County sheriff’s deputy investigating the company pulled up its Facebook page and “found positive reviews until 2017 at which point approximately six negative reviews were posted on the page,” arrest documents show. “He researched the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website, and found seven complaints against the company.”

Reviews posted on Google were primarily negative in the months before the couple’s arrests, citing a lack of progress despite payments being made and a lack of communication. In years past, customers posted glowing, five-star reviews.
