In downtown Manitou Springs, amid the gift shops, ice cream stands and pizza stops, locals know where to go.

Tourists aren't wrong to take their business to The Keg, and they're of course welcomed in the old-school lounge. But the bar typically is occupied by locals who line the bar and gather in the back by the wood burner or around the pool table.

The food is the ultimate calling card.

The burgers ($9.50 for 5 ounces) are the tastiest on the west side. Others splurge on chicken fried chicken ($13), smothered with country gravy and served with mashed potatoes and veggies. On the lighter side, the salads - especially the berry salad - are beloved.
