Your weekend starts now!

Join The Gazette at the Best of the Springs kickoff party on Thursday, April 13, at the Pikes Peak Center, starting at 5:30 p.m.

There will be food and drink from Bird Dog BBQ, Fujiyama and 503W, games hosted by Bronco Billy's saloon, and music by WireWood Station. Mike's Camera will be shooting keepsake photos, master Tarot reader Christie Coker will be providing readings, and both VillaSport Athletic Club and Camino Massage Therapy will be giving away massages. Although Best of the Springs 2017 magazine doesn't publish until Sunday, copies will be available at the party.

We'll announce the winners in all six categories - Arts & Entertainment, City Life, Dining, Family & Health, Shopping and Sports & Recreation. The party is free, with a suggested $10 donation to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, 2016 gold winner for best nonprofit - a cause which goes paw in paw with our "Top Dogs" magazine theme. We hope to see you there. RSVP to rsvp@gazette.com -Michelle Karas

Thomas Rhett to headline Pueblo music fest

Things that make concert promoters not just happy but delirious. The lineup for the June 16-17 Bands in the Backyard Music Festival in Vineland outside Pueblo had already been announced, contracts signed and sealed.

Then headliner Thomas Rhett, who closes the festival, made 2017 the year of all years, walking away with some of country music's top awards: ACM Song of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year and iHeart's Country Artist of the Year. Heaven sent. Yes indeed, Rhett performed at Backyard three years ago but he was just a rookie back then. Concert site is The Yard, 223344 E. Highway 50, tickets BandsInTheBackyard.com. -Linda Navarro
