The mighty roaring T-rex at the Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience went up in flames Thursday morning after an electrical issue caused the beast to belch flames instead of its iconic roar, the exhibit said on Facebook.

The 20-foot tall replica was a main outdoor attraction for the Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience – located just west of Cañon City.

“There was an unfortunate (and rare) electrical issue with our mighty T-Rex and he is no longer. You might even say… extinct,” the exhibit said Thursday on Facebook.

The exhibit was able to stay open through the morning, only shutting down the portion containing the burning T-rex.

“Safety of our guests and staff is of the utmost importance and we assure everyone that we are perfectly safe,” they said on Facebook.
