A mix of musical stylings is just what the doctor ordered as we head into the Labor Day Holiday weekend with a Take 10 live on our Gazette News Facebook Platform on Friday, Sept. 1, during the noon hour.
Audrey Bussanich will have you wondering if this 19-year-old musician is actually twice her age when it comes to her talents and vocals. Bussanich told me she has been playing nearly 17 years, "I had this toy piano and learned to play 'Peter's Theme' from the Peter and the Wolf ballet. When my parents saw that musical motivation, they said we need to have her take piano lessons." Classical is still a gentle reminder of her humble musical beginnings, but now, "I swapped classical and gone to dive bars to play with rock and roll musicians twice my age," says Bussanich.
Bussanich believes that playing hard-hitting and soulful rock gave her a new role and perspective on performing. "You learn how to improvise on the spot. It was kind of a culture shock going from one environment to the next from the classics to rock and roll," she said. "It strengthened my artistic ability as a performer."
Bussanich sings and plays keyboard and guitar and is influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones and Brandi Carlile
Her take on music is like learning life-lessons without having to go through the pain, "Music is a way to explore other scenarios with having to experience them firsthand. You can understand about loving and losing through music. It's about relatability. Musicianship is not about being a showy player. It's not about look what I can do. It's about what you in the audience can feel from the music, a method of expression."
At 19, Bussanich just released her first album, with six songs, entitled, "Southern Side."
You can hear Bussanich live on the Gazette's exclusive Take 10 performance on Friday on the Gazette News Facebook platform during the noon hour. Take 10 is just one of the many ways that the Gazette supports southern Colorado entertainment and puts them in the showcase for our readers to see and hear.
