Vista Grande Baptist Church is gearing up for an encore presentation of "A Colorado Christmas" for its Christmas Dessert Theater.
The musical drama - written by Allen Gasper, a Colorado Springs criminal trial attorney and former professional opera singer - runs Dec. 7-10 at the church, 5680 Stetson Hills Blvd.
Church members first performed it last December.
The play tells the story of a ranch family in crisis during the holidays.
"It's a Christmas message, but the message is based on the real purpose of the birth of Christ, which is ultimately the crucifixion ... which is just the end of the beginning," Gasper told The Gazette for a previous article. "This is multimedia, so we're using film and live presentation at the same time, which is sort of a different thing for this church."
The holiday showcase, in its 11th year, features entertainment and treats. Young church members who are preparing for mission trips and spiritual retreats will serve Christmas cookies, coffee and tea, and tips or donations are encouraged.
Though the performances are free, tickets are required. As of this writing, the Dec. 8 performance was sold out. The Dec. 7 and Dec. 10 performances are at 7 p.m., and Dec. 9 shows are at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
