The people have spoken and Crave Real Burgers has the best burger around.

The Colorado Springs burger joint was voted best place to grab a burger in The Gazette’s 2014 #BurgerMadness bracket.

In March, with the help from readers, The Gazette fielded 32 restaurants – most local, some national – that serve delicious burgers. In the end, a Colorado favorite was voted best.

Crave doubled up Smashburger in the title match, 69 percent to 31 percent. More than 270 people voted in the bracket challenge.

“I think honestly that the fact we could even beat a Smashburger, or beat something like that, everybody here was so happy,” Jeff Richard, owner of Crave, said. “We didn’t think it was going to happen and the fact it did was such a surprise. It’s awesome.”

Two random bracket participants were selected to receive gift cards to Hooters. The first-place winner will receive a $60 gift card and the second-place winner a $20 gift card. And because the first-place winner is a Gazette subscriber, they will receive $120 in gift cards.

Gazette subscribers are eligible for larger prizes in Gazette contests.

Both winners could not be reached for comment.
